Selecting the Panel

When the Panel was initially set up, we asked an independent market research agency (SMSR Research Ltd) to recruit to the Citizens’ Panel on our behalf. SMSR were chosen due to their extensive experience of recruiting to Panels for other councils and public bodies.

SMSR randomly selected residents via telephone and face to face interviews and asked them a series of questions about joining the Panel. Quotas were set on key demographics (sex, age, ethnicity, disability and housing tenure) based on census data to ensure that those recruited were broadly representative of the borough’s population. SMSR were set additional quotas at a ward level to ensure representation from each of our 18 wards. 

From time to time, the Panel membership is refreshed to give other residents an opportunity to participate and to ensure Panel numbers and responses to consultations remains high and continues to be broadly representative on the borough. SMSR usually undertake this refresh for us through face to face interviews, however, if you are interested in joining the Panel then please contact panel@rbkc.gov.uk
