Athlone Gardens
Overview
Athlone Gardens is a public park that’s popular with families, dog walkers and office workers having their lunch. Over the next few years, the park is due to be enlarged as nearby buildings are removed. A co-designed masterplan for the park will be created, working closely with local residents and community groups to help shape its future.
Initial consultation has already shown that local people would like to see:
-
More trees, plants and wildflowers
-
More seating and shade from the sun and rain
-
More activities for older children and teenagers, including an area for ball games
-
An improved dog exercise area
-
A small park building with toilets, a café, and shelter from the weather
The Designers
We have shortlisted two suitably qualified and experienced designers to help create proposals for the park.
Each designer has produced high-level images showing what the park could look like. As part of the process for deciding which designer should take their ideas forward, local people are being asked to choose their preferred submission. Feedback will only be accepted from residents of Dalgarno, Golborne or St Helen's Wards. Responses from outside these areas will not be counted.
The winning designer will then work with the community to create the final vision for Athlone Gardens, with construction planned to begin during 2026.
If you would like to be involved in the co-design workshops to shape the park’s design, please leave your email address at the end of this survey or email us separately at parksprojects@rbkc.gov.uk
