Dovehouse Street (between South Parade and Fulham Road) – Proposed one-way, except for cycles
Overview
Please read the following information carefully before filling in our consultation survey below, no later than Tuesday 22 December 2026 at 23:59.
The Council is proposing to introduce a northbound one-way restriction (except for cycles) on Dovehouse Street between South Parade and Fulham Road to help reduce traffic congestion. Under the proposal, any motor vehicles entering Dovehouse Street from Dudmaston Mews would be required to turn left and travel northbound towards Fulham Road. Cyclists would continue to be permitted to travel in both directions along this section of road.
Traffic surveys indicate that, between 7am and 7pm each day, almost 3,000 vehicles travel northbound along this short section of Dovehouse Street, compared with approximately 1,300 vehicles travelling southbound. Under the current two-way arrangement, the carriageway is too narrow for opposing vehicles to pass comfortably, resulting in frequent delays and queuing as vehicles give way to one another.
To improve accessibility, visibility and road safety the Council is also proposing to prohibit loading on the double yellow lines on the eastern side of Dovehouse Street where it meets South Parade.
Should the Council decide, following consultation, to proceed with the proposed northbound one-way restriction (except cycles) on Dovehouse Street, the associated loading change would be subject to a separate statutory consultation, currently anticipated to take place in February 2027.
The one-way proposals can be seen in the plan linked below, as well as the Notice of Proposal for the traffic order.
