Overview

The Gambling Act 2005 requires all licensing authorities to prepare and publish a Gambling Act Statement of Policy and Principles every three years. A review of the current policy, which is due to expire in January 2025, is now underway. This will be our seventh Statement of Gambling Policy.

Very few changes are proposed for this period. The amended sections/words are shown in red and a table detailing the changes is available below for ease of reference.

Paragraphs deleted as no longer appears in the Gambling Commission’s Guidance to Licensing Authorities. Following two paragraphs added:

1.2 In producing its statement, this Licensing Authority declares that it has had regard to the licensing objectives under the Act, the guidance issued by the Gambling Commission (published April 2021) and the final statement will have regard to any responses from those consulted on the statement.

1.3 Notwithstanding this policy statement, each application received will be considered on its own merits, subject to the provisions of the Act, associated and subordinate legislation, and common law.

Paragraph amended to reflect revision and publication dates of the Gambling Commission’s Guidance to Licensing Authorities.

2.1

Paragraph amended to reflect figures obtained from the national census of 2021 which shows population size has decreased by 9.6% from around 158,600 in 2011 to 143,400 in 2021.

Fourth bullet point. Grammatical change to reflect correct spelling of alleys.

Date within paragraph amended from 2024 to 2027. The date by which the next review must be carried out.

Appendix amended as Category A gaming machines are not currently permitted.
