Why Gloucester Road North?
This section of the Gloucester Road has distinctive character and vibrant mix of independent shops, cafés, and restaurants of which make it a much-loved local destination. In recent years, outdoor seating introduced through our Summertime Licensing initiative has helped to enhance the street’s lively atmosphere and strengthen its identity as a welcoming place for residents and visitors. By focusing improvements here, we aim to enhance this neighbourhood centre while improving accessibility, safety, and the overall experience for everyone who uses the street.

Our Initial Concept
We’ve developed a concept plan exploring how the Gloucester Road could be enhanced to create a more attractive, comfortable, and enjoyable environment for everyone.
Key features of the concept include:
- Wider footways to improve pedestrian comfort and allow space for outdoor dining and greening where appropriate.
- Upgrading surface materials on footways, carriageways, and kerb lines with high-quality natural stone. The specific type of stone will be determined at a later stage, subject to support for this scheme.
- Making better use of the kerbside, including moving a bus stop and TfL Cycle Hire docking station, whilst providing new dedicated loading areas.
- Removing car parking to introduce attractive new public realm at Kensington Gate.
- Making it easier and safer to cross the road by introducing flush continuous footway crossings on side roads, whilst improving crossing facilities on the Gloucester Road.
