Hollywood Road - Proposed Improvements
Feedback updated 5 Oct 2023
We asked
We asked residents local to Hollywood Road if they supported the Council's proposals to improve the streetscape by adding some greenery and reducing traffic speeds to create a greater sense of place.
You said
The majority of respondents supported the Council's proposals, although a number of comments and suggestions were made.
We did
Following consultation with the local community we have made some modifications to the original scheme in response to the comments that we received. The modified scheme has now been approved, the detail design work has been completed and work is expected to start later this year.
The changes at the junction with Fawcett Street will be subject to the outcome of the statutory consultation on the ‘no entry’ proposal to prevent motor vehicles entering Fawcett Street from Hollywod Road, which is currently in progress.
Overview
The Council has an ambitious streetscape programme to create beautiful places within Kensington and Chelsea. Hollywood Road with its wonderful community restaurants and pubs is a fantastic example of an area which is well loved by residents and so should rightly be a place of beauty to enjoy. During the Covid19 pandemic a number of restaurants and pubs were licensed for additional outdoor dining on the highway and this has subsequently encouraged more of a cafe culture in the area.
We are, therefore, proposing a scheme that would improve the streetscape by adding some greenery and reducing traffic speeds to create a greater sense of place. The aim is to create a more pleasant and more enjoyable experience for residents as well as anyone walking down the road or sitting outside at one of the bars and restaurants. The scheme would also ban the left turn from Hollywood Road into Fawcett Street effectively making Fawcett Street one-way.
