Join the Portobello Engagement Oversight Panel

Overview

Portobello Road is a world-renowned market street that means so much to so many people.

The council are supporting the ambition of traders, residents, and businesses for a long-term plan to sympathetically improve the infrastructure of the area while embracing Portobello Road’s iconic character and culture.

We are recruiting up to 20 people to form a Portobello Engagement Oversight Panel who will shape the engagement programme and oversee the process to ensure robust participation and transparency.

The panel will also have the opportunity to review community feedback and proposals, as well as put forward recommendations to Lead Members for review as part of the engagement process.

Expressions of interest for joining the panel will be accepted from groups and individuals based in North Kensington (Pembridge, Colville, Golborne, Norland, Notting Dale, St Helen’s, and Dalgarno wards) and representing one or more of the following:

• Street traders (including members of Market Streets Action Group [MSAG] and Portobello and Golborne Management Committee [PGMC]) 
• Residents’ associations and forums 
• Businesses 
• Charities and community groups 
• Landowners 
• People with a long-term disability 
• Young people (including youth clubs, schools, and colleges) 
• Older people

In case the panel is oversubscribed, preference will be given to groups located closer to Portobello Road and to members of MSAG and PGMC. We strongly encourage minority groups to apply. We will ensure that panel members are representative of local demographics.

Each panel member is expected to act as a conduit of information between the panel and the people that they represent.

We expect the panel to meet about once a month in person in the local area from spring 2023 to spring 2024.

Why your views matter

By joining the Portobello engagement oversight panel, you will help to ensure that any proposals to improve the market street are thoroughly discussed with members of the community.

If you are not able to join the engagement oversight panel you will still be able to influence the project. The panel will help design and implement plenty of ways for members of the community to get involved and help shape the future of Portobello Road.
