Let's Talk K&C 2030

Overview

Let’s Talk K&C 2030

As we start to develop our Council Plan for the next four years, we want to have an open and honest conversation with you about what services you value the most.

We want to work with you to consider how we can best meet the future challenges together and keep Kensington and Chelsea special.

The challenge

We are in a very different place to where we were four years ago. We are facing an increasing demand in our services as well as the loss of more than £100m over four years following central Government cuts.

This means we have to start doing things differently if we are to meet these challenges, continue to support those residents most in need, and look after the borough.

We will need to make difficult choices about where we focus funding and what we prioritise. These difficult choices will include balancing a reduction in services against potential council tax increases.  We will also be making it easier for residents to do more for themselves, allowing the Council to focus on what's most important to them.

Our commitment

The Council was elected on a commitment to protect and maintain the services that matter most to you. We therefore remain committed to the four Conservative manifesto priorities:

•        clean streets and amazing spaces

•        value for money

•        getting the basics right

•        making your life easier

Better ways of working together

We still need to hear from you about where you want us to focus our efforts. There are no easy choices, but we want residents to tell us where we have the most impact and provide the most support, how we could make it easier for you to self-serve and what services you’d like us to protect. This will mean making commitments on both sides.

As the Council faces increasing financial pressure and difficult choices, the Public Participation Commitments will help ensure local people are part of the conversation about priorities, rather than simply being informed of decisions after they are made.

The Commitments focus on accountability, transparency and inclusion in how the Council involves local people. This should lead to better decisions, greater trust and stronger communities that are more involved in shaping local services and solutions.

A key part of this is working with residents to co-design a Resident Pact. This will set the commitments we will need from the Council and from residents in order to achieve our shared vision for the borough.

Where do you come in?

We’re running this online survey for six weeks to hear from you.

You have until Sunday 9 August to give us your views.  In turn, your feedback will help us produce a plan that we’re committed to delivering together.

What next?

Your feedback will directly feed into the new Council Plan, which we will publish in the autumn.

We'll also share what we heard through this consultation and explain how your views influenced our decisions as part of our Public Participation Commitments.
