Manresa Road - Proposed Zebra Crossing by Francis Holland School

Overview

Please read the following information carefully before filling in our consultation survey, no later than 23:59 on Sunday 8 November 2026.

Enabling more walking is one of the Council’s transport objectives and helping to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the road is an important step in meeting that objective. 

The Council is proposing to introduce a new zebra crossing on a new section of raised carriageway on Manresa Road, outside Francis Holland Preparatory School. 

The approximate position of the zebra crossing can be seen in the plan linked below.  

The proposals include:

• A new zebra crossing with new belisha beacons with integrated LED lights.
• Shrouds will be installed around the Belisha beacons to reduce light disturbance for residents living close to the crossing.
• The carriageway will be raised up to footway level and the footways on both side of the road will widened to make it easier for pedestrians to cross the road by reducing the crossing distance, providing more space for pedestrians and to help slow down traffic approaching the crossing.
• Tactile paving to help visually impaired people to use the crossing.

To make space for the crossing the following changes are proposed to the nearby parking:

• Removal of one residents’ parking bay to relocate the electric vehicle charging bays (Total Energies bays) to the north to facilitate the crossing.
• Removal of one residents’ parking bay to relocate the motorcycle parking bay to south of the private access road.
• Removal of the two Pay by Phone parking bays closest to the school to make space for the new crossing.

The Council’s Director for Highway and Regulatory Services will consider all the comments received, in consultation with the Stanley ward councillors and the Lead Member for Transport, Parks and Clean Streets, before deciding on whether to proceed.
