Traffic Order S332 - Chesterton Road

Closed 23 Feb 2022

Opened 12 Jan 2022

Overview

The Council has received requests from residents for an on-street cycle hangar unit in Chesterton Road. Residents living in flats experience particular difficulty storing bicycles at home and much existing cycle parking on-street does not offer high levels of security. The proposal is to introduce one secure cycle hangar unit outside No. 155 Chesterton Road, reusing a Car Club bay that is no longer required by the operator.

Each on-street cycle hangar unit provides space for six residents’ bicycles. The spaces are rentable at a cost of £72 per year and would be available for rent on a first come, first served basis.

Why your views matter

We are seeking your views on reusing a Car Club bay (measuring 5 metres (16ft)) that is no longer required. The proposal has two components:

  1. Conversion of three metres (10ft) of Car Club bay No. 241 to a cycle hangar bay outside No. 155 Chesterton Road. This area will accommodate an on-street cycle hangar unit.
  2. Conversion of two and a half metres (8ft) of Car Club bay No. 241 to resident’s parking outside No. 155 Chesterton Road.

Your comments will help us decide whether to proceed with the proposals as planned.

The Car Club bay is no longer needed by the scheme operator.

The existing residents’ bay is 98 metres (322 ft) long with space for 19 cars to park. This proposal would overall increase the size of the bay to 100.5 metres (330ft) with space for 20 cars to park, so would result in the gain of one residents’ parking space.
