Traffic Order S377 - Shrewsbury Street

Closed 27 Jul 2022

Opened 15 Jun 2022

Overview

The Council is proposing installation of a cycle hangar and new tree in Shrewsbury Street. The Council is committed to further greening our borough through provision of cycle storage and more trees. This consultation therefore has two parts:

A) Conversion of three metres (10ft) of Resident’s Parking outside No. 10 Shrewsbury Street to a Cycle Hangar bay.

B) Installation of a new tree within the extended footway (beside proposal A above) outside No. 10 Shrewsbury Street.

Each on-street cycle hangar unit provides space for six residents’ bicycles. Similar bike hangar spaces in the borough are currently rentable at a cost of £72 per year and if this unit went ahead, the spaces would be available for rent on a first come, first served basis.

An example of a green bicycle hangar at the kerbsidePictured above is an example of a cycle hangar. The design can differ depending on the outcome of procurement.

This section of residents’ parking is 13 metres (43ft) long with space for two cars. Reducing the bay by three metres (10ft) would leave 10 metres (33ft) and would still leave space for two cars.
