St Ann’s Road by Stoneleigh Place - Proposed Zebra Crossing

Closes 13 Jul 2025

Opened 2 Jun 2025

Overview

Please read the following information carefully before filling in our consultation survey, no later than Sunday 13 July 2025.

Enabling more journeys to be made on foot is one of the Council’s key transport objectives and helping to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the road is an important step in meeting that objective.

The Council receives many requests each year for new pedestrian crossings from residents across the borough. We review every request to determine which locations are feasible, then each year we assess which ones will provide the most benefit. The assessment considers whether there have been any injury collisions at the location, how difficult it is for pedestrians to cross the road and how many people are likely to use the crossing. We then focus our resources on delivering the two or three sites that offer the most benefit to pedestrians.

This year, following requests from local residents, one of the sites where the Council is proposing to introduce a new zebra crossing is across St Ann’s Road near to Stoneleigh Place. We propose installing the zebra crossing and raising it up to the level of the pavement to encourage drivers to slow down for the crossing.

The proposed zebra crossing also includes widened footpaths on both sides of the crossing. This is to improve visibility between pedestrians and oncoming vehicles approaching the crossing. These widened footpaths also reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians, creating a safer crossing point for pedestrians to cross. To increase safety and visibility, we are proposing to relocate the existing 3 northbound parking spaces 15m closer to the bus stop. This is so that buses and large vehicles will not prevent pedestrians from seeing oncoming southbound traffic.

The proposal is near the borough boundary between Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith and Fulham, so Kensington and Chelsea Council will work closely with Hammersmith and Fulham Council as we develop these proposals.

The layout of the zebra crossing can be seen in the plan below.
