St Mark's Road - Proposed Zebra Crossing by Thomas Jones Primary School

Overview

Please read the following information carefully before filling in our consultation survey, no later than 23:59 on Sunday 8 November 2026.

Enabling more walking is one of the Council’s transport objectives and helping to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the road is an important step in meeting that objective. 

The Council is proposing to introduce a new zebra crossing on St Mark's Road, near Thomas Jones Primary School. 

The approximate position of the zebra crossing can be seen in the plan linked below.  

The proposals include:

• A new zebra crossing with new belisha beacons with integrated LED lights.
• The central island will be removed and the footways widening on both sides of the road to reduce the crossing distance, provide more space to pedestrians, and to help slow down traffic approaching the crossing.
• Tactile paving to help visually impaired people to use the crossing.
• Dropped kerbs will be provided to make it easier for people in wheelchairs or pushing prams to cross the road.

To make space for the crossing the following changes are proposed to the nearby parking:

• Removal of one pay by phone parking bay from southwest side of St Mark's Road to make space for the zebra crossing zigzag markings.

The Council’s Director for Highway and Regulatory Services will consider all the comments received, in consultation with the Notting Dale ward councillors and the Lead Member for Transport, Parks and Clean Streets, before deciding on whether to proceed.
