Sydney Street - Proposed Zebra Crossing by Britten Street
Overview
Please read the following information carefully before filling in our consultation survey, no later than 23:59 on Sunday 9 August 2026.
Enabling more walking is one of the Council’s transport objectives and helping to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the road is an important step in meeting that objective.
This year, one of the sites where the Council is proposing to introduce a new zebra crossing is on Sydney Street, by its junction with Britten Street.
If implemented, the scheme would be funded by Transport for London.
The proposals include:
- Introduction of a zebra crossing on Sydney Street at the junction with Britten Street
- Footway buildouts on western and eastern arms of Sydney Street, to narrow the carriageway to reduce speeds and increase visibility between pedestrian and drivers
- Reduction of resident parking bays by 17.5m (approximately four spaces) to accommodate the zebra crossing zig zags and footway buildout
The approximate position of the zebra crossing can be seen in the plan linked below.
