Housing Management - Decants Policy
Overview
Housing Management’s previous Decants Policy was published in October 2022 and the Council is reviewing the policy to include some changes to the service.
What is a decant?
A decant is the process in which someone may be moved from their property into a temporary property for many reasons such as moving tenants in order to carry out works, which cannot be carried out with tenant(s) in occupation. Decants are usually necessary when a property is in need of major works or refurbishment.
For clarity, this policy does not apply to leaseholders, unless in very exceptional cases where substantial refurbishment is required, and the property cannot be occupied. All decants will be temporary except in exceptional circumstances, when it may be necessary to convert temporary into permanent decants.
Draft Decants Policy
This policy aims to:
- Ensure that the Council follows a transparent, fair, robust, and consistent approach to managing the decant process
- Enable decants to be carried out in order to minimise disturbance to residents
