Housing Management - Vulnerability Policy
Overview
The new Housing Management Vulnerability Policy explains how the Council identifies and supports residents who may be vulnerable when using housing services. Vulnerability can be short-term, long-term or linked to a particular situation. The policy aims to ensure residents receive fair, personalised support and that services are adapted to meet individual needs.
The policy focuses on understanding residents' circumstances, improving communication, making reasonable adjustments, and helping residents maintain their homes and live independently. It also promotes joint working with residents and partner organisations, while ensuring information is recorded appropriately and services are delivered safely and sensitively.
To help shape the policy, the Council held two co-design sessions with residents. These sessions gave residents the opportunity to share their experiences, highlight challenges when accessing housing services, and suggest improvements. Their feedback helped strengthen the policy's focus on person-centred support, clear communication, and tailoring services to meet individual needs.
