Cale Street and Ixworth Place - Proposed Zebra Crossings

Overview

Please read the following information carefully before filling in our consultation survey, no later than 23:59 on Sunday 2 August 2026.

Enabling more walking is one of the Council’s transport objectives and helping to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the road is an important step in meeting that objective.

The Council is proposing to introduce two new zebra crossings, one on Cale Street by Sydney Street and one on Ixworth Place, by Oratory RC Primary School.

If implemented, the schemes would be funded by Transport for London.

The proposals include:

Cale Street

  • Introduction of a zebra crossing on Cale Street at the junction with Sydney Street
  • Footway buildouts on the southern side of Cale Street / Syndey Street, to narrow the carriageway to reduce speeds and increase visibility between pedestrians and drivers
  • Removal of one residents’ parking bay to accommodate part of the crossing's zig zag marking
  • Conversion of Single Yellow Line to Double Yellow Lines at the junction to increase visibility
  • Conversion of Single Yellow Line and Double Yellow Line to zebra crossing zig zag markings

Ixworth Place

  • Introduction of a zebra crossing on Ixworth Place, north of the junction with Cale Street
  • Removal of the existing pedestrian islands on Ixworth Place, north of the junction with Cale Street.
  • Footway buildouts on all sides of the junction, to narrow the carriageway to reduce speeds and increase visibility between pedestrians and drivers.
  • Conversion of Single Yellow Line to School Keep Clear Markings
  • Conversion of Single Yellow Line to Double Yellow Line on each junction
  • Conversion of Single Yellow Line and School Keep Clear markings to zebra crossing zig zag markings
  • Removal of two residents’ parking bays to accomodate the crossing's zig zag markings and improve visibility

The approximate position of the zebra crossings can be seen in the plans linked below.
