Culture Activities in Kensington and Chelsea - Citizens' Panel
Overview
Kensington and Chelsea is rich in culture. We are an international destination for visitors, with Exhibition Road, Notting Hill Carnival, Chelsea Flower Show and Portobello Market to name just a few of the amazing institutions based here.
Culture is who we are, it is our heritage and future. It is how we live our lives and express our identities. It is art, music, film, fashion, design and food. But it is much more: it is what defines us and sets out how we are changing.
We are proud of the diversity of our communities here in Kensington and Chelsea and this shines through the varied cultural activities on offer. From alfresco and fine dining, thriving high streets, fashion hubs, football, museums, libraries, markets, carnivals and festivals, there is opportunity, fun and learning in all parts of our borough.
Cultural activities in the borough are provided by our communities, our partners in the public and voluntary sectors, private enterprise and by ourselves. This partnership approach facilitates creativity and innovation, whilst ensuring there are cultural activities that everyone can access.
As we think about what type of cultural services we provide and facilitate in the future, we want to understand residents’ views on what’s available and whether it meets their needs and interests.
We also really want to think more about how we can use cultural services to support even better community cohesion across the borough, ensuring residents feel comfortable accessing the opportunities on their door steps and that we maximise the benefit of the diversity and community spirit that exists here.
Why your views matter
The Council wants to continue this approach and continue to back culture so the borough remains a destination of fun, creativity and diversity for decades to come.
However, the current financial climate means all council budgets are under more demand than ever before. This means budgets for culture are stretched and so it’s incredibly important that the money we are able to spend in this area is as valued and focused as possible.
To do this we want to make sure the steps we can take to facilitate our partners work has the greatest impact for our residents, and we want to ensure the direct investment we make in this sector is as focused and valued as possible.
By completing this survey you can help ensure the cultural activities we provide and support are aligned to our residents’ priorities, and can help build a more cohesive community for all.
Answering the survey should take between 5-7 minutes. To thank you, and in recognition of your time, all those that complete a survey will be entered into a prize draw with a chance to win one of two £50 Amazon vouchers. We will also make a donation to charity for each completed survey.
