Future use of 15 Gertrude Street and 1-9 St Mark's Road
The two buildings
Council services delivered from 15 Gertrude Street and 1-9 St Mark's Road are moving or will move from these buildings. Both buildings are in poor condition and not open to the general public. To ensure frontline services are protected, the Council is proposing to sell them to help close the budget gap of over £100 million caused by the government's Fair Funding plans.
Related information
Each building would be sold for the best price available as the law requires and any future use would need planning permission. The Council is proposing to dispose of high-cost assets which are no longer needed, to save money on repairs and annual running costs. This would also free up money to reinvest in Council buildings used by the local community.
Financial context to consider:
| 15 Gertrude Street | 1-9 St Mark's Road | |
| Cost of repairs to make the building safe and fit for use | £5,000,000 | £2,500,000 |
| Running costs each year | £150,000 | £200,000 |
| Estimated sale value | £5,500,000 | £4,000,000 |
