Gloucester Road - Proposed central carriageway tree planting (NCIL6 – QG23)
Overview
Please read the following information carefully before filling in our consultation survey below, no later than Sunday 5 July 2026 at 23:59pm.
Following a successful application by a resident of Queen's Gate ward for Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) funding to introduce new trees along Gloucester Road, the Council is now seeking the views of local residents on the proposals.
Queen’s Gate ward councillors supported the application in 2025 and subsequently approved the proposal for consultation. The current Queen’s Gate ward Councillors will consider the results of this consultation, before taking a view on whether to proceed with the scheme.
Tree planting proposals
The proposal is to introduce up to six new trees along Gloucester Road, between Kynance Place and Southwell Gardens. The trees will be planted in tree pits located at the centre of the road, with four in existing traffic islands and two in new traffic islands.
You can view recently installed tree planting in Grenville Place (SW7) and Prince of Wales Terrace (W8).
The approximate locations of the new trees are shown in the plan below, or via the link at the bottom of the page.
The ground underneath the footways is congested with utility service ducts and cables, so it’s not possible to plant the trees in the footway. The carriageway is the only area where we can fit in new trees along these roads.
If we do go ahead with the new tree pits, we may find additional utility ducts and cables during the construction stage, so the locations might vary from those shown.
These proposals are being delivered through NCIL and are separate to the ‘Gloucester Road North Amazing Spaces’ scheme. However, if the two schemes go ahead, Gloucester Road will have a much greener feel as you head north from the Cromwell Road.
